As a Fine Art Artist, who creates in Mixed Media, I love creating beautiful images. By focusing on the simplest and most basic objects in my environment, an idea is created. In most of the artwork, layers of texture and manipulated color are integrated until my mind’s eye is satisfied. One could say it is a search for poetry in nature. My desire is that you see my artwork as simple elegance from classic inspirations.
I began taking photographs in high school – wanting to expand my horizons beyond the isolation of living in a rural area. Growing up on a cattle ranch in Pryor, Oklahoma, amongst a family of photographers, it was difficult for me not to develop an interest in art and, of course, photography. I graduated from Stephens College, a small women’s college in Columbia, Missouri, with a degree in graphic design. During college, I pursued my artistic interests taking photographs for the school newspaper and developed a background in journalistic photography.
After graduating from college I began looking for jobs in the graphic design field. Beginning my career as a graphic designer and eventual creative director for a large corporation gave me the opportunity to work with media ranging from television commercials to print advertising. I was able to work on commercials with celebrities such as Leonard Nimoy and sponsorships with the Houston Rockets. As much as I enjoyed the leadership role as a creative director and working as a graphic designer, I have always had a love for fine art and photography, nurtured and influenced by my sister who is a professional photographer and mother and grandmother who were accomplished amateur photographers.
I now live in the Ozarks where I am retired from the corporate world and raising three young boys. My background in graphic design has given me a unique perspective on my mixed media art - combining my love of nature and design skills with artistically influenced photography and layers of color and texture. I simply want to create beautiful images that create pause.
